Joplin Police recover stolen vehicle at 19th and Moffet, make drug arrests

On Saturday evening at 9:14 p.m. a Joplin Police Officer pulled over at 22nd and Empire to run some information on his computer. 

While doing so, he observed a Chevy Colorado pull up to the stop sign in front of him and the driver acted surprised to see a police car. The truck then turned east on 22nd and hit the curb with a tire. The officer ran the plate as it passed and the license plates came back stolen, reported to JPD previously. 

The officer caught up to the vehicle as it turned into a driveway at 19th and Moffet. The officer contacted the male driver and female passenger. The male driver lied to officers and gave a false name. The officer detained the driver and ran he truck’s VIN. The truck was reported stolen to Salina, Kansas PD in 2017. The female was then detained as well. 

The driver’s ID was found in the truck confirming his real identity and that he was a suspended driver. Also found in the truck was drug paraphernalia. At the jail, the female was found to have a meth pipe and a bag of meth concealed on her as well. Numerous charges sought on both.
