Mass casualty simulation scheduled at Missouri Southern

(From Southern News Service)

A mass casualty simulation, based on a mock industrial plant explosion, will take place from 8 a.m to noon Friday, April 27, on the campus of Missouri Southern State University.

Caleb Lewis, director of simulation and inter-professional education, said students from Missouri Southern’s health care programs will work together to learn how to triage and manage an influx of injured patients in a simulated hospital/ER environment.

Students from EMS, nursing, respiratory therapy, radiology and local emergency room physicians will take part.

“Our goal is to have students from different disciplines work together in a team environment to learn how to appropriately triage trauma patients and understand the different roles and responsibilities of each health care provider,” Lewis says.

Conflict resolution and effective communication among team members will also be covered during the training exercise, he said.
