Joplin man airlifted to Springfield hospital following head-on collision on Coyote Drive

Two people were injured in a two-vehicle accident 3:45 a.m. today on Coyote Drive, one mile south of Joplin.

According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2007 Hyundai Tuscan driven by Tommy L. Harms, 32, Joplin, crossed the center line and struck a 2003 Toyota 4 Runner driven by Beau T. Hamlin, 26, Galena, Kansas head on.

Harms was airlifted to Cox South Hospital, Springfield, with serious injuries.

Hamlin was treated for moderate injuries at Freeman West Hospital, Joplin.

  1. Hamlin is a Cherokee county Kansas detective ..sounds like he may have been wandering a little out of his jurisdiction....

    1. Are people not allowed to leave where they work and live? I dont believe a 2003 Toyota 4 runner is exactly police issue for Cherokee County.

    2. Someone should have the surveillance footage for the center bar at downstream pulled for that evening.... Hamlin was seen there by numerous people, and was drinking. Believe that accident deserves a little looking into from someone besides local law enforcement.......
