A Liberal man was charged with driving while intoxicated following a one-vehicle accident 3:20 p.m. Saturday on NW 30th Road, one mile southeast of Liberal.
According to the Highway Patrol report, a 1998 Ford F150 driven by Stephen P. Riley, 42, Liberal, lost control on gravel, ran off the roadway and struck a utility pole causing a grass fire.
Riley, who was also cited for failure to drive on the right half of the roadway, no valid license and failure to register, refused treatment for minor injuries.
A passenger, Lucky B. Phelps, 49, Liberal, was treated for moderate injuries at Freeman West Hospital, Joplin.
