Joplin teen identified as pedestrian killed in accident at 20th and Range Line

The victim in this case has been positively identified by family. The deceased is Mark E. Collins, 16, Joplin. We appreciate the community and media for helping spread the word to make the identification possible.

Update: On 6-28-2018 at 11:08am the unidentified victim in this case died from his injuries at Freeman Hospital. It is also possible that he is younger than first thought, with a medical estimate of 16-20 years of age. We are following up on numerous leads of his possible identity.

Original news release

On June 27 at 10:18 AM, officers were called to 20th and Range Line for a vehicle crash involving a pedestrian.

Officers arrived and located a male in the roadway with serious injuries. The pedestrian was crossing Range Line westbound and walked into the path of a southbound vehicle. He was transported to a local hospital by EMS in serious condition. 

The driver of the vehicle was not injured. The Joplin PD crash team continues to investigate. The name of the pedestrian is not known at this time.
