Joplin Independence Day celebration moving to Missouri Southern

The Joplin Independence Day Celebration will kick off on Wednesday, July 4th at 6:00 p.m. at the Fred G. Hughes Stadium on the campus of Missouri Southern State University.

“Missouri Southern has been a great partner,” said Paul Bloomberg, Director of Parks & Recreation. “The City and Missouri Southern have a great relationship and we feel moving the event to their campus will help grow the July 4th Celebration since they have such a great venue for hosting this type of event.”
The 2018 Joplin Independence Day Celebration, sponsored in part by Academy Sports & Outdoors, will feature games for the whole family, live music by The Mixtapes, and food trucks. Inflatables and bounce houses will be available for an additional fee. Unlimited bounce wristbands will be $10/child.
Event Schedule:
  • 6:00: Food Trucks open, Games & Inflatables begin, and the stadium opens for visitors
  • 7:00: Live Music by The Mixtapes
  • 9:45: Fireworks
The football stadium is a NCAA regulation field and no one will be allowed on the football turf. Seating is available in the stadium and along the grass around the field.

Items that ARE allowed inside the stadium:
• Water
• Food
• Small Coolers
• Seat Cushions
• Folding Chairs
• Blankets
• Strollers

What NOT to bring:
• Personal Fireworks
• Alcohol
• Grills - While tailgating is encouraged, grills are not allowed inside the stadium.
• Pets (service animals are allowed)
• Tobacco
