Joplin Police Department accepting applications for police officer

We are accepting applications and background packets for our third class of lateral hires for police officer.

We NO LONGER require applicants to take the written or physical agility test if they meet either of the following requirements:

-the applicant has worked in law enforcement as a POST Certified Police Officer in the last calendar year or is currently a POST Certified Police Officer for another agency
-OR-
-the applicant has graduated from a police academy in the last calendar year and is now Missouri POST Certified.

Applicants that meet at least one of those requirements will need to complete the standard employment application and complete the background packet for the background investigation to begin.

Applicants who successfully complete the hiring process that have previous, full-time sworn law enforcement experience, will be hired in at a rate higher than the entry level range for Police Officer II. Starting pay for lateral transfers will range from $17.10 an hour to $18.40 an hour based on experience, with credit given for up to 4 years of experience.
