Carthage man killed, another seriously injured in collision with vehicle parked in roadway


One man was killed and another one injured in a two-vehicle collision 6 p.m. Thursday on County Road 80, five miles east of Sarcoxie.

According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2006 Chevrolet HHR driven by James E. Robinson, 78, Carthage, struck a 2007 Dodge Ram 2500 that was parked in the roadway.

A passenger in the Robinson vehicle, Terry A. Abernathy, 55, Carthage, was pronounced dead by Dr. Elizabeth Webb at Mercy McCune-Brooks Hospital, Carthage, at 7:11 p.m.

Robinson was treated for serious injuries at Mercy Hospital, Joplin.
