One person was killed and another injured in a one-vehicle crash 7:50 p.m. Thursday on MO 171 at I-49 in Carthage.
According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2013 Nissan Maxima driven by Forrest A. Smith, 74, Carthage, ran off the right side of the road striking a traffic control support post. After the impact, the vehicle rotated overturned and came to rest in the roadway.
Deputy Jasper County Coroner Richard Rector pronounced a passenger, Barbara J. Pitcock, 81, Carthage, dead at the scene.
Smith was treated for serious injuries at Freeman West Hospital, Joplin.
The fatality was the 114th of 2020 for Highway Patrol Troop D.
