(From the Joplin Police Department)On May 10th, 2023, at 12:41 p.m. the Joplin Police Department Emergency Communications Center received a report of an injury crash at 4th and Schifferdecker Avenue involving a van and a motorcycle.
Officers arrived on scene along with Joplin Fire Department and METS Ambulance personnel and located the motorcycle rider and determined he had critical injuries. He was provided treatment and transported to Freeman Hospital where he is listed in critical condition.
The Joplin Police Department Major Crash Team is currently investigating the incident.
Preliminary investigation results indicate a full-size Ford van was stopped at the stop sign facing westbound at 4th and Schifferdecker and began making a left turn onto Schifferdecker Avenue. The van pulled into the path of a Harley Davidson motorcycle that was northbound on Schifferdecker Avenue.
The driver of the van was not injured and there were no other passengers in that vehicle. The motorcycle operator was the only occupant on the motorcycle.
Schifferdecker Avenue remains closed between 7th Street and 2nd Street while the Major Crash Team continues their investigation. We ask that the public please avoid the area at this time. Further details may be released as they become available.
