(From Joplin Schools)Two Joplin High School seniors have been recognized as national College Board award winners! Alissa Kean was recognized as a National African American Recognition Award (NAARA) winner; Parker Williamson was recognized as a National Indigenous Award (NIA) winner.
Students are chosen based on earning a GPA of 3.5 or higher, while achieving outstanding performance on the PSAT/NMSQT, PSAT 10, and/or AP Exams. College Board recognition programs celebrate students' hard work in high school and showcase their strong academic performance.
The academic honors are reserved for rural area, Black, Indigenous, and/or Latino students, and are an opportunity for students to share their strong academic achievements with colleges and scholarship programs that are seeking to recruit diverse talent.
“It is great to have awards that recognize Black students from around the country for their academic success," said Kean. "With receiving this award, I want to encourage other Black students to research programs that will reward them for their accomplishments in the classroom.”
“I am truly honored to have received the National Indigenous Award,” said Williamson. “My heritage has always been something I am proud of and to see it aid, alongside my academic achievement, is surreal.”
We're proud of these Eagles as they finish their time in Joplin Schools.
