(From the Joplin Police Department)On September 26th, 2023, at 9:52 p.m., the Joplin Police Department Emergency Communications Center received a call that there was an adult male in a wheelchair on I-44 and Rangeline Road. The caller advised he almost hit the individual as he was traveling down I-44.
Officers were dispatched to check on the pedestrian, however the individual was struck by a passing semi-truck before officers arrived on scene.
After arriving at the crash scene, officers and EMS personnel attempted life saving measures but the pedestrian died from injuries sustained from the collision.
Members of the Joplin Police Department Major Crash Team responded to the scene and took over the crash investigation. The pedestrian has been identified as Andrew L. Garrett, age 56 of Joplin. Next of kin has been notified.
The driver of the semi-truck was contacted and did not sustain any injuries. The crash remains under investigation and further details may be released as they become available.
