Jasper firefighters battle structure fire on JJ Highway

(From Jasper Fire and Rescue)

Just before 1am this morning and in the middle of thunderstorms, Jasper Fire was dispatched to a structure fire on South JJ Hwy. Dispatch stated that the house was well involved.

Upon our arrival the house had fire throughout and coming through part of the roof. The bulk of the fire was knocked down in a few minutes to try and determine if there was anyone in the residence. Fortunately there were no occupants.

The fire appeared to have started from a lightning strike and was pushed through the house by the wind from the thunderstorm. It was a total loss.

Jasper Firefighters cleared at about 5am. Jasper Fire District responded with 5 personnel and 3 trucks.

We want to give a huge THANK YOU to the Golden City FD, Tri-Cities FPD and Lamar FD for sending manpower and tankers. Thank you to Barton County Ambulance for standing by and to Barton Co. and Jasper Co. 911 for the assistance.
