Jasper Police Department arrests Lamar man on meth charge

(From the Jasper Police Department)

On Monday, September 19th, 2023 at 1427 hours, a Jasper PD officer initiated contact with a subject who drove into the parking lot of Pete's Convenience Store located at 409 N. 6th St., Jasper, Missouri. The subject was driving a silver 2010 Chevrolet Impala with a Missouri temporary license.

Contact was made with the driver, Kevin Willet (Lamar). Willet was taken into custody for driving while revoked.

A search of the vehicle was conducted. The following was located:

*Black felt pouch with a glass pipe inside that had white powder residue inside. (Located in the front center console).

Willet was transported to the Jasper County jail where he was held for DWR and possession of meth related drug paraphernalia. Enroute to the jail, Willet became “mouthy” and appeared upset by the words he was saying to the officer, even insinuating the officer should take off his badge.

Willet being 5’7” 115 pounds, the officer did not perceive him as a great threat to inflict serious bodily harm and did not respond to Willet’s verbal attacks on the officer. The officer understood that going to jail is not a pleasant experience and those arrested will not always be happy and could lash out due to frustration. Once the handcuffs were taken off, Willet was turned over to jail staff without any physical confrontation.

Note: Willet is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
