(From the Joplin Police Department)On Friday, February 9th, 2024, at 11:04 p.m. a semi tractor trailer was driving east on Interstate 44 and began to enter the deceleration lane to take the exit to State Highway 43. A passenger vehicle also traveling east on Interstate 44 struck the rear of the semi and left the roadway.
Joplin Police Officers were in the parking lot next to the highway and immediately responded to render aid and assistance. The driver of the passenger vehicle died on the scene from injuries sustained in the crash. She has been identified as Rachel Binford, age 24 of Stillwater, Oklahoma.
Her next of kin have been notified. There were no other occupants in the vehicle. The driver and passenger in the semi-truck were not injured.
Members of the Joplin Police Department Major Crash Team responded to the scene to conduct the crash investigation. Further details may be released as the investigation continues. This incident is Joplin’s 4th traffic crash fatality in 2024.
