(From the Joplin Police Department)On September 25, 2024, at 7:41 p.m., the Joplin Police Department Emergency Communications Center received a 911 report of a two-vehicle crash at East 44th Street and South Main St.
Officers with the Joplin Police Department responded to the scene along with members of the Joplin Fire Department, METS Ambulance, and Newton County Ambulance District. Preliminary indications show a northbound black Toyota SUV was making a left turn onto 44th St when it collided with a blue Harley-Davidson motorcycle traveling southbound on Main St.
A passenger on the motorcycle was pronounced deceased at the scene. The identity of the passenger is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
The driver and a passenger in the Toyota did not sustain any injuries. The driver of the motorcycle was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.
The Joplin Police Department Major Crash Team responded to the scene and are actively conducting the fatality crash investigation. Further details may be released as information becomes available.
