Suspect in disappearance of Lamar girl on probation for Joplin drug crime

The person the Lamar Police Department says took a three-year-old girl from her home at 1305 Cherry, is on probation for a drug-related crime committed in 2012, according to online Jasper County Circuirt Court records.

Police say that Bayleigh Masterson, 25, who does not have custody of the girl, took her at 12:30 p.m. Monday.

The Joplin Police Department arrested Masterson February 12, 2012, on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance. She took an Alford plea on October 29, 2012,  meaning she did not admit she was guilty, but acknowledged there was enough evidence to convict her.

Judge David Dally gave Masterson a suspended sentence and placed her on probation for five years.

Masterson was charged with a misdemeanor, driving while revoked, March 29, 2013. That charge has yet to be settled and on August 1, and Newton County Circuit Court Judge Gregory Stremel issued a warrant for Masterson's arrest after she failed to appear for a hearing. She posted $500 bond and is scheduled for her next hearing Wednesday, September 10.
