(From the City of Joplin)
Starting in mid-February, American Airlines will be upgrading the Joplin service to Dallas/Ft. Worth by providing a bigger, dual class, aircraft for travelers. The upgraded aircraft, the Canadair Regional Jet (CRJ) 700, will have seating for 66 passenger with a First Class section. This aircraft will accommodate more passengers and provide the dual class service.
American Airlines began their service in Joplin in 2011 with the Turbo Prop ATR72 aircraft that held 68 passengers. With AA’s conversion to regional jets two years ago, the seating capacity was reduced to 46 seats per flight. According to Airport Manager Steve Stockam, the return of “Jet Service” to the Joplin community was great news, however the loss in seating capacity has had its effect.
“We currently hear a lot of our customers state that they cannot find a seat on our flights” said Stockam.
Currently Joplin flights to and from Dallas are more than 80% full most of the time. The added seat capacity will provide 8,000 additional seats on flights serving Joplin annually, and the dual class availability will be important to AA Gold and Platinum customers who use the facility regularly.
“Customer service and convenience is what our customers have come to expect from the Joplin Regional Airport,” he said. “Free parking, convenient access to the terminal, no long security lines, and now more capacity and first class accommodations make Joplin Regional and American Airlines your best choice when you need to fly.”
