Joplin Public Works Director David Hertzberg recently announced Dan Johnson, PE, CFM, as the Assistant Director of Public Works- Engineering. As assistant, his duties will include plan reviews for new development, capital improvement project management, annual maintenance, and system rehabilitation projects.
Johnson has worked for the City for the past 12 years as the storm water and sanitary sewer system engineer. During his career with the City, Johnson has managed the storm water capital improvement program voters approved in 2001 and 2011. Johnson has also been the design engineer and project manager for several sanitary sewer projects as well as transportation enhancement projects that include bike/pedestrian trails and street-scaping in downtown Joplin. Prior to this, he spent nine years working for the Ritchie Corporation of Wichita, Kansas for nine years.
“Dan has a great deal of experience and knowledge, and is well-rounded in public works project management,” said Hertzberg. “Having served at the City for the past 12 years, he is very familiar with the projects in all of our areas, including capital improvements and disaster recovery. He will be a valuable asset to the management of the department.”
Johnson earned a Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Missouri-Rolla (now the Missouri University of Science and Technology). He received his Associate’s Degree from Crowder College in Neosho Missouri/
He is a registered professional engineer in the State of Missouri and a member of Missouri Society of Professional Engineers, Missouri Floodplain and Stormwater Managers Association, and American Public Works Association, and Water Environment Federation.
He moved into this new position on June 20. Johnson was born in Concord, California and raised in southwest Missouri.
