Arrest made following shooting of Galena woman

(From the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office)

Deputies with the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a rural Galena home Thursday afternoon after a verbal argument led to a woman being shot.

Prior to law enforcement’s arrival, the woman left the scene and was driven by private vehicle to a Joplin hospital, where she was treated for non-life threatening injuries. She was later released Thursday evening.

During the course of the investigation, detectives executed a search warrant at a residence south of Galena.

Arrested at the scene was 28 year-old Matthew Wilkins, who was transported to the Cherokee County Jail on allegations of Aggravated Battery, Criminal Threat, Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Wilkins was later released after posting $20,500.00 bond.
