JPD motorcycle officer in right place at right time, captures fugitive

(From the Joplin Police Department)

Incident Spotlight

Yesterday afternoon one of our motorcycle police officers was riding on 32nd Street, approaching the Gulf Gas Station at 32nd and Serene. He saw two Newton County deputies pull into the gas station parking lot and exit their vehicles, as a male exited the gas station and took off running from them with the deputies chasing.

The motorcycle officer was a little caught off guard that the suspect was running right at him. The officer quickly dismounted his motorcycle in the roadway and latched onto the suspect, who now wanted to get away from him. The two struggled on the ground before the deputies assisted in getting him into custody.

The male had two Full US Extradition Probation Violation Warrants for his arrest, and the initial officers were closing in on him to arrest him when he had ran on foot.
