Carthage teen killed, another seriously injured in fiery crash on Harmony Road

A Carthage teen was killed and another Carthage teen injured in a one-vehicle crash 7:25 p.m. Friday on Harmony Road, two miles east of Carthage.

According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2003 Ford F-150 driven by 16-year-old Carthage boy traveled off the right side of the roadway, returned to the roadway, began skidding, traveled off the left side of the roadway, struck a tree and caught fire.

Jasper County Deputy Coroner Keith Lancaster pronounced the juvenile dead at at the scene at 7:52 p.m.







A 15-year-old male juvenile was taken to Mercy Hospital, Joplin, with serious injuries.

The fatality was the 85th this year for Highway Patrol Troop D.

(Note: The Highway Patrol has stopped releasing the names of anyone under 17 who is involved in an accident.)
