Joplin Police- Driver of this car suspected in murder at Westside Mini Storage, considered armed and dangerous

On 12/18/2019, at 1215 p.m., Joplin Police Department responded to a homicide at Westside Mini Storage, 1717 S. Roosevelt.

Security cameras show a black 2005 or 2006 Nissan Altima 3.5L SE arriving just prior to the incident and leaving immediately after.

The suspect vehicle has five spoke aluminum wheels, rear factory spoiler, chrome trim around the doors and windows, and tinted side and rear windows.








The vehicle was last seen north on Roosevelt, then westbound on Junge from Schifferdecker. We request the public’s assistance in identifying and locating the driver of the vehicle.

This individual should be considered armed and dangerous and should not be approached.

On December 19th, 2019, an autopsy of Jonathan E. Powell, was completed in Springfield, MO.

It was determined Powell died of gunshot wounds. A homicide investigation is being conducted. If you have any information in reference to this case, please contact the Joplin Police Department at 417-623-3131 x885.

On December 18th, 2019 at approximately 12:15 P.M. Joplin Police dispatch received a call of an unknown trouble at 1717 S. Roosevelt Ave.

Upon arrival officers located a male who had been shot. The male was transported to Mercy Hospital where he later died.

The victim has been identified as Jonathan E. Powell; 36 years old of Joplin. An autopsy has been scheduled for 12:00 P.M. tomorrow in Springfield, MO. If you have any information about this case, you are asked to contact the Joplin Police Department at 417-623-3131 x885.
