Crowder College holding welding competition for area high school, college students

Crowder College is hosting the Southwest District Skills USA welding competition on February 9 and 10 at the Joplin Advanced Training & Technology Center, 420 Grand, Joplin. This has been rescheduled from last week.

The competition includes high school students from five area schools and college students from Crowder and Ozark Technical College, Springfield.








The two-day competition will feature Fabrication Team competition on Wednesday, Feb. 2, with six high school teams and one college team. Individual welding competitions will take place Thursday, Feb. 3, with 37 high school and college participants.

Top finishers from each competition will go on to compete at the state level this spring. Crowder College awards scholarships to the top finishers to continue their education.

Crowder College Technical Education program has 67 high school and college students participating in the following categories: Auto, Computer technology, Construction, Criminal Justice, Diesel, Health Science, and Welding. They will perform a variety of job skills, demonstrations, job interview and more.

A nonprofit national education association, SkillsUSA serves middle-school, high-school and college/postsecondary students preparing for careers in trade, technical and skilled service occupations.
