A Columbus, Kansas woman was killed as a result of a train colliding with an unoccupied vehicle 6:19 p.m. Friday on Oak Road in Asbury.
According to the Highway Patrol report, an unoccupied 1999 Oldsmobile 8 was stopped on the tracks and was struck by a Kansas City Southern locomotive driven by Melbin H. Lane, 48, Fort Scott, Kansas.
The collision caused the Oldsmobile to hit a pedestrian, Cathy A. Windle, 70, Columbus, Kansas. Jasper County Coroner Randy Nace pronounced Windle dead at the scene at 6:45 p.m.
The fatality was the seventh this year for Highway Patrol Troop D.
