(From the City of Joplin)Starting Tuesday, February 15, the signal at Main Street and 10th Street will change to flashing yellow for north and southbound traffic. Traffic coming onto Main Street from East 10th Street will experience a flashing red during the construction period.
Signal changes are necessary as crews work to replace the stormwater culvert near this area and have to remove a signal pole.
This signal change and the closure of West 10th Street will be in place until a new signal pole can be reinstalled, which is estimated to be done in about three weeks. Drivers are urged to use extreme caution while in this area.
The improvement will enhance the stormwater system by providing a more efficient conveyance system in the area. Sidewalk improvements along the west side of Main Street and south side of 10th Street will also be completed with new inlets and an ADA ramp at 10th Street installed. Drivers may want to choose alternative routes due to possible delays.
Southwest Missouri Traffic is the prime contractor on the job with D&E Plumbing and Heating as the sub-contractor. The project is funded through the Parks and Stormwater Sales Tax, which voters renewed in 2021.
