Oronogo man sought for burglary, assault; Webb City officer attacked by dog, shoots it

On Monday, October 3, 2022, at 17:31 hours officers with the Webb City Police Department were called to the 1000 block of West First Street in Webb City in reference to a in progress burglary and assault. 

Officers arrived on scene and were told that a 43-year-old white male from Oronogo kicked in the rear door of the residence, assaulted the resident then took two of the three dogs at the residence before fleeing from the scene in his vehicle.

 

While conducting their investigation, a third dog that was left at the residence aggressively charged at a neighbor then charged at an officer. The officer discharged their weapon, injuring the dog. The injured dog was located several blocks away. The dog was taken to a local veterinary office where it was euthanized due to its injuries. 

The officer was treated by emergency medical services at the scene. 

Charges of Burglary, Stealing, and 3rd degree Assault are being sought with the Jasper County Prosecutor’s Office. Charges of Vicious Dog and Dog at Large are being sought with the Webb City Municipal Court. The suspect is still at large at the time of this press release.

Update

The dog had been contained inside the resident's fence but somehow escaped, ran across the street and began aggressively charging at a neighbor and the officer. 

The officer was either knocked down or tripped and fell as they were backpedaling away from the charging dog. The dog continued to charge at the officer who was on the ground at the time they fired their duty weapon.

No charges are being sought against the resident/victim. All charges are being sought against the 43-year-old white male suspect from Oronogo.
