Joplin man killed, five people injured in crash on Apricot Road

One person was killed and five others injured in a one-vehicle crash 3:25 p.m. Sunday on Apricot Road one mile south of Joplin.

According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Samuel M. Mitchell, 63, Joplin, traveled off the right side of the road and struck the concrete cap of a vertical culvert.

Dr. Gross at Mercy Joplin pronounced Mitchell dead at 4:24 p.m.

One passenger, a 7-year-old girl, was treated for serious injuries at Freeman West Hospital, Joplin.








Passengers Kelsey A. Mitchell, 34, and a 12-year-old girl, both of Joplin, were treated for serious injuries at Mercy.

Passengers Virgil L. Sargent, 47, and Elizabeth A. Patton, 56, both of Joplin, were treated for minor and moderate injuries, respectively, at Mercy.

The fatality was the 132nd this year for Highway Patrol Troop D.
