Joplin firemen battle two-story structure blaze, subzero temperatures on N. Florida Avenue

(From the Joplin Fire Department)

At approximately 8:30 am the Joplin 911 Center received a report of a structure fire located in the 2900 block of N. Florida Ave.

On arrival firefighters discovered a 2-story residential structure with flames and smoke showing. All occupants were out of the structure on arrival and had no injuries.

Fire personnel hampered by sub-zero temps worked for 2 hours before getting control of the fire.

The cause and origin of the fire was determined to be utilizing a heat source to thaw pipes that ultimately set the structure on fire. There were no injuries to fire personnel and JFD was assisted by Webb City Fire Dept, METS ambulance and the Joplin Police Department.
