(From the City of Joplin)
Citizens throughout the Joplin area are encouraged to attend a Public Input Open House to provide comments, opinions and ideas related to transportation issues in the area. Hosted by the Joplin Area Transportation Study Organization (JATSO), the Open House is from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, August 18. It will be held in the Council Chambers of Joplin City Hall, 602 South Main.
The goal of the meeting is to gain information related to the Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP) that serves as the blue print for transportation improvement priorities within the metro area. Transportation items within the plan include roadways and bridges, public transit, rail, aviation, freight, and bicycle/pedestrian.
Organizers are asking the public to consider various areas. Some examples include:
What is your assessment on our current trail and trolley system?
What areas of transportation do you think we should improve?
In your opinion, what streets, railroad crossings, and intersections need to be improved?
JATSO members emphasize that the future of the metropolitan transportation system and success of the LRTP depends on the public’s participation. The public is encouraged to attend this meeting or provide input through the available website. To learn more, review available documents, and provide comments, visit JATSO online at www.jatso.net .
If there are any questions pertaining to the items that will be discussed at the meeting please contact Taylor Cunningham at 417-624-0820, extension 511or by email at Tcunning@joplinmo.org.
