Bright Futures Neosho is starting the school year off strong with a $25,000 donation from Tyson Foods to go toward the Weekend Backpack Program. A presentation will be held Wednesday, August 26 at 10:00 a.m. at the Neosho YMCA to recognize Tyson Foods' generosity.
The Weekend Backpack Program has been put in place for students facing food insecurity who without the program, may not receive a meal between Friday and Monday. Bags are sent home on Friday of each week with protein-packed foods so that students arrive on Monday ready to learn. Bright Futures Neosho organizes and provides nearly 400 backpacks for students in the Neosho School District.
Bright Futures Coordinator Barb Lake commented, "We are grateful for the support of Tyson to kick off our campaign for this year. The program averages around $150 per student, adding up to $60,000 a year based on past enrollment. This is why donations like Tyson's are so important to keep our program going. Their generosity inspires other businesses and individuals to support kids in our community."
This event is open to the public and volunteers will begin filling backpacks shortly after the presentation.
