Three injured, lanes blocked as semis collide on I-44 near Joplin

Three people were injured in a collision of two tractor-trailer units 7:52 p.m. Thursday on I-44, six miles east of Joplin. Westbound lanes were blocked for close to five hours.

According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2012 Kenworth tractor-trailer driven by Jesus Garcia, 32, Mission, Texas, was traveling in the left lane at approximately 45 to 50 miles per hour and was struck in the rear by a 2015 Volvo tractor-trailer driven by Zachary V. Campbell, 26, Marionville.

Campbell was treated for serious injuries, Garcia for minor injuries, and a passenger in the Garcia vehicle, Alberto Garcia, 35, Snyder, Texas, for moderate injuries at Mercy Hospital, Joplin.
