On August 10th, 2015 at 9:07 pm, the Joplin Police Department responded to and investigated a
two-vehicle crash at 7th Street and Roosevelt.
The crash involved a westbound passenger car
driven by Haley Massey, 17 years old of Joplin, and an eastbound motorcycle driven by David
Oliver 31 years old also of Joplin.
Mr. Oliver was transported to Freeman Hospital, where he later died as a result of the injuries
sustained from the crash.
The Joplin Police Department’s Major Crash Team was contacted to
come and investigate the crash.
The early investigation and witness’s indicate that the motorcycle driven by Mr. Oliver who was
wearing a helmet, was traveling at an excessive speed and did not have any lighting on his
motorcycle. Ms. Massey was making a left turn and crossed the path of the motorcycle, which
resulted in the crash. This crash is still under investigation by the Major Crash Team.
