Lightning causes structure fire at 1809 S. Connor

The Joplin Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 1809 S Connor at 8:55 AM. Saturday, 22 August, 2015. 

Fire crews arrived on the scene at 9:00 AM to find a large two story wood and masonry structure with light smoke showing from the roof. Crews used the aerial ladder to access the roof and found three small smoldering fires in the roof decking and shingles. The fires were extinguished and the inside of the structure was checked for fire with none being found. The fire was declared under control at 9:21 AM. 

Crews remained on scene until 10:21 AM. Ownership information is not currently available. 

No injuries were reported to either fire personnel or others in the area. Six Joplin fire units and 17 Joplin Fire personnel responded as well as JPD and METS.

The cause of the fire was a lightning strike, witnessed by a neighbor.
