MSSU activities for week of May 1

The campus will be alive with sound of music, as a variety of performances by music students at Missouri Southern State University are planned for the coming week.
The MSSU Choral Society will present a Broadway and pops concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 1, at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 2423 W. 26th St.
The Chamber Winds Concert is set for 5:30 p.m. Monday, May 2, in Corley Auditorium.
The Southern Percussion Ensemble will present a concert at 7:30 p.m. Monday, May 2, in the Bud Walton Black Box Theatre. Chase Neely serves as the ensemble’s director.
The Spring Choral Concert will be offered at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 65, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 3035 S. Central City Road. The choirs are under the direction of Dr. David Sharlow.
The Southern Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band concert has been set for 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 6, in Taylor Performing Arts Center. The groups are under the direction of Dr. Rick Espinosa.
Each of the performances is free and open to the public.
Other events planned on campus include a workshop led by the Small Business & Technology Development Center, screenings of the 2015 film “The 5th Wave” and Finals Madness – a chance for students to have fun and blow off steam on the last day of classes.

Choral Society Broadway and Pops concert: 3 p.m., St. Paul’s United Methodist Church.
Monday, May 2
Chamber Winds Recital: 5:30 p.m., Corley Auditorium in Webster Hall.
Southern Percussion Ensemble concert: 7:30 p.m., Bud Walton Black Box Theatre.
Thursday, May 5
“The 5th Wave”: 2:30 and 6:30 p.m., Phelps Theatre in Billingsly Student Center. The film screening is open to the campus community.
Friday, May 6
Starting a Small Business-The First Steps: 1:30 to 4:30 p.m., Room 108 of Plaster Hall. Participants will learn about the importance of planning, discuss legal and regulatory requirements, learn about marketing strategies and identify sources of financing. Cost is $29 per person. Finals Madness: 7 p.m. The Throwback Time Machine Dance Party will be offered until 10 p.m. in the Student Life Center. Students can enjoy free games and entertainment from 10 p.m. to midnight at Tilt in Northpark Mall, then head back to the dining hall for a late-night breakfast and more games.
