The 10th annual Southern Lights holiday festival will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 7, at the Lion Plaza in front of Billingsly Student Center.
Activities will include horse-drawn carriage rides, pictures with Roary, cookie decorating, holiday crafts, and hot cocoa, cider and cookies. A tree-lighting ceremony with the university president will be offered at 6 p.m. All students, faculty, staff and alumni are invited to attend.
In conjunction with the celebration, the MSSU Bookstore will offer 20 percent off all original-priced apparel and gifts that day.
Other activities scheduled on campus include a Jazz Orchestra performance and the annual Seasonal Choral Flourish.
Tuesday, Dec. 6
Swingin’ Jazz Holiday Show: 7:30 p.m., Webster Hall’s Corley Auditorium. Under the direction of Freddie Green, assistant professor of music, the concert will feature a variety of big band jazz and holiday favorites. Admission is free and open to the public.
Wednesday, Dec. 7
Southern Lights: 5 p.m., on the Oval.
Thursday, Dec. 8
How to Write a Successful Business Plan: 1:30 p.m., Plaster School of Business. Participants will learn key elements of creating a business plan. Cost is $39. For more information, call 417-625-3128.
Friday, Dec. 9
Seasonal Choral Flourish: 7:30 p.m., St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, 812 S. Pearl Ave. It will feature performances by the Chamber Singers, Jazz Unlimited and the Concert Chorale. The Missouri Southern Trumpet Ensemble and Brass Quintet will offer pre-concert music starting at 7 p.m. Free and open to the public.
Fall Finals Madness: 11 p.m., Roller City, 2800 E. 24th St. Students will enjoy a night of roller skating, food and prizes as they prepare for Finals Week.
Saturday, Dec. 10
Seasonal Choral Flourish: 7:30 p.m., St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, 812 S. Pearl Ave. Free and open to the public.
Sunday, Dec. 11
Choral Society Christmas Concert: 3 p.m., St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 2423 W. 26th St. The performance by the community choir, under the direction of Dr. Al Carnine, is free and open to the public.
