The Missouri Department of Natural Resources has awarded a $50,000 Small Community Engineering Assistance Program grant to the city of Jasper to evaluate wastewater facility upgrades.

“This grant provides an opportunity for small communities throughout the state to examine local infrastructure and to make the necessary repairs to ensure that it is working in a safe and healthy manner for both the local citizens and the surrounding environment,” said Harry Bozoian, director of the Missouri Department of Natural Resources.

The city will use the grant funds to develop a facility plan that will evaluate wastewater treatment upgrades that are necessary in order for the city’s wastewater treatment facility to meet new permit limits for ammonia. The facility plan is estimated to cost $62,500 and is expected to be completed in October 2018.

The Department of Natural Resources will administer the grant funds and is committed to working with communities to assist with water and wastewater infrastructure improvement projects. The department’s Water Protection Financial Assistance Center assists with funding for communities with water quality, wastewater and drinking water infrastructure needs.
