A Carthage man was killed in a one-vehicle accident 5 a.m. this morning on I-49, two miles north of Carthage.
According to the Highway Patrol report, a 1999 Honda Accord driven by Stephen A. De La Garza, 28, Carthage, went off the right side of the roadway and overturned down a steep embankment.
A passenger, Ignacio E. Hernandez, 24, Carthage, was pronounced dead at the scene by Deputy Jasper County Coroner Jason Hutchings at 6:13 a.m.
The fatality was the 112th this year for Highway Patrol Troop D.
