Earlier News Release

On this date 11-13-17 at 11:26 am Newton County deputies were serving a court ordered eviction on Iris Road north of Neosho. The individual involved in the eviction refused to leave and assaulted deputies at that time.

The subject was subdued and placed in a patrol vehicle. While the deputies continued to deal with other family members the individual managed to get his handcuffs in front of him. He then was able to get past the cage and steal the patrol car.

At this time it is not known how he managed to get into the front of the car but that is under investigation. Other deputies on the scene gave pursuit as the individual drove towards Neosho in a dangerous and erratic manner.

He continued driving at a high speed as he entered Neosho. As he turned onto Neosho Boulevard, deputies became increasingly concerned due to congested traffic and the school zone.

A decision was made to ram the patrol car by means of a pit maneuver. A deputy struck the right rear of the stolen vehicle causing it to swerve to the right where it struck a curb and then rolled over onto its top. The individual at that time continue to fight deputies as he was subdued for transport to the hospital. There are numerous charges pending on the individual at this time.
