Pittsburg man arrested on battery, weapons charges following shooting incident

Zachary Alan Ludden, age 22 of 718 W. Forest, was arrested and booked into the Crawford County Jail for aggravated battery, criminal discharge of a firearm, felony criminal damage to property and possession of a firearm under the influence. The second subject initially taken into custody was questioned and released. 

Two search warrants were conducted as part of the investigation into this shooting incident: one at 716 W. Forest and one at 718 W. Forest. The weapon believed to be used in this incident was recovered in the suspect’s home. Investigators believe Ludden fired numerous shots into the residence at 716 W. Forest from outside the home.

The suspect and the 21 year old male victim are believed to be acquaintances.

Law enforcement officers from the Crawford County Sheriff’s Department and Kansas Highway Patrol assisted with the initial response to the shooting incident.

The investigation into this matter is continuing.

Earlier News Release

This morning at 8:34 am officers responded to the 700 block of W. Forest street for a report of someone suffering from a gun shot wound to the hand. 

The victim has been transported to a local hospital, where he is being treated for his non-life threatening injuries. Area residents were evacuated, but they are now able to return to their homes. Two individuals have been taken into custody at the scene.
