On Friday, December 8, the Joplin Fire Department responded to a report of a structure fire at 802 S. Brownell at 1:25 AM.
The first fire department crew arrived on scene at 1:30 AM to a single story residential structure with heavy smoke coming from the residence. Crews were able to enter the structure and extinguish the fire.
The fire was brought under control at 1:47 AM and completely extinguished 2:00 AM. The residence was determined to be a vacant structure in which transients were living in at the time of the fire.
There were no injuries to civilians of firefighting crews.
The fire department responded with 5 apparatus and 13 personnel and we were assisted by the Joplin Police Department, and METS Ambulance Service.
The fire was determined to be accidental in nature from lit candles to close to combustibles.
