Winter weather advisory in effect for Joplin, Springfield area

URGENT - WINTER WEATHER MESSAGE
National Weather Service Springfield MO
924 PM CST Fri Dec 22 2017

...Winter weather to continue tonight...

.After some afternoon and early evening rainfall across the area,
a transition was taking place across some of the region to a mix
of sleet, freezing rain and light snow. Temperatures have dropped
to around freezing up to the mid 30s.

The transition to all snow will continue overnight as temperatures
aloft begin to cool below freezing. A band of precipitation in
Oklahoma will lift northeast overnight and will be the main area
that produces our snowfall with this system. We are still going
for around 1 to 2 inches along and just north of the I-44
corridor, with lesser amounts outside of this corridor.

While some freezing rain will be possible in locations that drop
below freezing prior to the changeover to all snow, the main
impacts with the ice will be with a glazing on elevated surfaces
as the ground remains fairly warm.
