Joplin Police prevent knife-wielding suicidal man with small child in the room from killing himself

Overnight, a neighboring law enforcement agency requested our assistance dealing with a suicidal male. 

The male had a knife to his throat, threatening to kill himself or force officers to kill him. There was also a female and small child in the home, and he refused to move away from the front door. 

Our officers were able to deploy “less lethal impact rounds,” allowing the man to be taken into custody with minor injuries, and nobody else hurt. He was taken to a local hospital for a mental evaluation hold.
