Children airlifted to Springfield hospital after being hit by car on 59 while retrieving a ball

Two children were airlifted to Cox South Hospital in Springfield after they were hit by a vehicle as they ran onto the highway to retrieve a ball.

The accident occurred 5 p.m. Saturday on MO 59, a quarter of a mile south of Noel.

According to the Highway Patrol report, Olivia Kosmes, 8, Siloam Springs, Arkansas, and Tafadi Ruan, 12, Noel, were struck by a 1989 Chevrolet Suburban driven by John R. Ackerman, 77, Sulfur Springs, Arkansas.

The children were treated for serious injuries.
