Stolen car recovered, Lamar K9 unit leads authorities to suspect

(From the Lamar Police Department K9 Unit)

On 03-18-2018 the Lamar Police K-9 Unit was contacted by the Barton County Sheriff's Office requesting assistance in the NW part of the county.

Crawford County Sheriff's Office initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle and it failed to yield. The pursuit traveled from Crawford County into Barton County. The drive went off the roadway and traveled through a field and into a wooded area. The vehicle was confirmed stolen at some point prior to the arrival of the K-9 Unit.

The driver fled the scene into a wooded area. A perimeter was set up with responding officers. Upon their arrival, the LPD K-9 Unit began a track starting at the driver's door of the truck. Hondo tracked the suspect through the woods, crossed a small creek, a roadway, and two fences.

The suspect was located lying down in the brush area of a pond embankment after a lengthy track. The suspect was taken into custody without incident. There were several articles located during the track that had been discarded by the suspect. Items collected were multiple bags of syringes, a hat, coat, and gun that was later discovered to be a BB gun with safety features removed.

Investigation is ongoing.
