On Thursday, March 22, 2018, the Joplin Fire Department responded to a report of a grass fire in the area of 14th and Pearl.
While crews were responding, they were advised by dispatch that it was actually a structure fire at 1201 S. Byers. The first arriving crew arrived on scene at 6:38 AM and found a commercial structure heavily involved. It took crews approximately 45 minutes to bring the fire under control and took more than 4 hours to completely extinguish.
There were no injuries to civilians or firefighting crews.
The Fire Department responded with 7 units and 19 personnel and were assisted by the Joplin Police Department and METS Ambulance Service.
The Joplin Fire Marshal has determined the fire to be incendiary in nature, and it is still under investigation with the assistance of the Joplin Police Department.
