(From the Joplin Police Department)

Incident Spotlight

This weekend, our officers seized several guns from criminals on traffic stops.

On Friday at 3:53 p.m. one of our officers stopped a vehicle at 32nd and McClelland McDonald’s, after recognizing the driver to be a suspended driver. A male was arrested for being in possession of drug paraphernalia, meth, morphine and a loaded 9mm handgun. The male was a convicted felon who is not allowed to possess firearms.

Friday night at 9:50 p.m. officers were dispatched to 1832 Maiden Lane, Kum N Go, for a male passed out behind the wheel on the parking lot. Officers arrived and contacted the male. He was found to be in possession of marijuana, meth and a loaded .22lr revolver. He was arrested and all items seized.

On Sunday afternoon, at 1:27 p.m., an officer was driving on 10th Street and saw a vehicle do a “360” at 10 and Jackson and take off southbound at a high rate of speed. The officer tried to track the vehicle down and found it parking at Junge and Jackson and a male and female getting out of it. He gave them orders to stop and come to him. Eventually, the two were arrested for being in possession of meth and marijuana and a loaded handgun was found on the ground by the front of the car. Both said the other had placed the gun there.
