Carthage man killed, Carthage woman seriously injured in motorcycle crash on I-49

A Carthage man was killed and a Carthage woman injured in a one-vehicle crash 10:20 p.m. Friday on I-49, five miles north of Carthage.

According to the Highway Patrol report, a 1992 Honda 1500 driven by Cecil L. Balster, Jr., 50, Carthage, traveled off the right side of the roadway and overturned, ejecting both people on the vehicle.

Jasper County Deputy Coroner Keith Lancaster pronounced Balster dead at the scene at 10"39 p.m.







The passenger, Tedi J. Balster, 30, Carthage, was taken to Mercy Hospital, Joplin, to be treated for serious injuries.

The fatality was the ninth fatality in the month of August and the 72nd this year for Highway Patrol Troop D.
