Newton County Sheriff warns of Social Security scam

(From the Newton County Sheriff's Office)

Have you received a call from someone claiming to be an officer stating your Social Security Card has been suspended due to fraud?

100% A Scam!

When you speak to them regarding re-activating your card, they will “phish” for information. Information such as your name, social security number, address, etc. then they will proceed steal your identity.

If you receive a call or voicemail regarding the suspension of your social security card, please don’t give them any information.

The Social Security Administration does not inform people of issues via phone. They will send you a letter on official letterhead and they will not ask for personal identifying information.
