MODOT scheduled resurfacing, sidewalk projects in Joplin, Webb City, Carterville area

(From MODOT)

Drivers should expect lane closings and occasional traffic delays when projects to resurface and improve sidewalks along Business Loop 49 in Jasper and Newton counties begin the week of August 19, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.

Sidewalk Improvements

Beginning the week of August 19, contractor crews will upgrade sidewalks to conform to Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements, including replacing sidewalk and installing curb ramps and pedestrian signals in areas along Range Line Road.

The work will be done in these areas:

-In Webb City between 10th Street and 12th Street

-In Joplin between Turkey Creek Boulevard and Hammons Boulevard

The contractor anticipates beginning in Webb City and moving south through Joplin. Drivers can expect occasional lane closings during lower traffic volume times.

Resurfacing

Beginning the week of September 1, contractor crews will resurface nearly 21 miles of Business Loop 49 (Range Line Road in Joplin) and add shoulders and rumble strips in areas between Missouri Route 171 in Carterville and Missouri Route 175 south of Tipton Ford. In addition, guardrail will be upgraded at bridges over Shoal Creek and Thurman Branch.

Crews will work 7 p.m.-6 a.m., Sunday through Friday.

Drivers are urged to use caution as they may experience a rough ride in areas until the resurfacing project is complete.

On the section of Business Loop 49 in Joplin (Range Line Road), drivers can expect lane closings and some traffic delays.

On the section of Business Loop 49 between Joplin and Tipton Ford, drivers also can expect flaggers and pilot cars directing them through the work zone. Drivers should wait for the pilot vehicle before proceeding through the work zone or before entering the work zone from a side road.

Signs and message boards will alert drivers to the work zones.

Weather and/or scheduling delays will alter the work schedule.
